Workshop on Yoga and Medical Practice

Yoga as a complementary therapy has been popularly used over the past two decades, as evidenced by publications and medical literature. It has been reported to help manage various psychosomatic ailments including cancer.

A significant amount of research has taken place in India where yoga originated 5000 years ago. One such Indian research institute that has published many research papers on yoga for ailments is SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation), Bangalore, India.

Yoga Bharati is pleased to organize a workshop on Yoga and Medical Practice for doctors and other medical practitioners who have adopted, or who wish to adopt yoga in supplementing their medical practice.

  • This workshop aims to set the ground for collaboration of yoga practitioners with medical practitioners to take health care to the next level.
  • The principal objective of the workshop is to share research data and experiences collected at various medical institutions in India (mainly at SVYASA) and the United States.
  • Workshop will facilitate to present ideas on yoga and its role in managing chronic conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, and cancer management.

In our effort toward this agenda of East meeting West, we hope to achieve a greater understanding of how to reduce health care costs while building a strong and healthy community.

Speakers: Dr.R.Nagarathna and Yogashree N. V. Raghuram

Dr.R.Nagarathna, MBBS, MD, FRCP (Edinburgh), FICA (USA) is the Chief Yoga Therapy Consultant and Dean of the Division of Yoga and Life Sciences at SVYASA. She combines her medical training along with her deep nderstanding of yoga in leading the health center. She heads the therapy division for asthma, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and other ailments. Dr. Nagaratna serves as an advisor and guide for Ph.D students at SVYASA.

Sri N.V.Raghuram is a faculty member at SVYASA University and the spiritual founder of Yoga Bharati. With more than 20 years of yoga experience, Sri Raghuram conducts workshops and yoga discourses during several retreats and conferences around the world. He has been instrumental in starting yoga therapy programs in many hospitals and medical research centers in US and Europe. He is also a faculty member for yoga teachers training courses.
