Event Overview
The morning set a perfect tone for the Yoga Yagna, with calm and inviting weather that seemed to encourage everyone to “come and be a sādhaka today.” This year’s event was particularly special as it was led by the vibrant and dedicated Youth Wing of Dallas Yoga Bharati.
The program drew an enthusiastic response from the community, with close to 50 participants aged 5 to 76. The hall quickly filled with energy, curiosity, and a shared spirit of practice.
Program Flow and Highlights
Opening & Introduction
Youth moderators Amruta and Saanvi opened the session with a thoughtful introduction to Yoga as a Yagna—a sacred offering—emphasizing the importance of presence, awareness, and sincerity in one’s practice.
Prāṇāyāma & Warm-Up
Rupa guided the participants through foundational prāṇāyāma techniques, helping align the breath and prepare the prāṇa for deeper practice.
This was followed by Elina, who led dynamic warm-up practices to ready the body for the Sūrya Namaskāra Yagna ahead.
Sūrya Namaskāra Yagna Begins
The Yagna commenced with Eesha chanting the Sūrya Namaskāra mantras. The first round included bīja-mantra chanting, creating a powerful, meditative atmosphere.
Three variations were introduced:
Classic version – demonstrated by Arnav, Therapeutic version – demonstrated by Amruta, Chair version – demonstrated by Hima
The hall was now completely full, bursting at its seams, with participants fully engaged and moving in unison.
Music & Momentum
Our beloved Totakaṣṭakam played in the background, with Ved providing audio support, adding devotional depth to the practice.
Youth-Led Quizzes
To enrich the experience and encourage mindful reflection, two interactive quizzes were conducted:
Mayukha led a quiz on food waste, environmental responsibility, and reflections on Swami Vivekananda. Arnav conducted a second quiz focusing on plant-based eating, environmental impact, and Swami Vivekananda’s advocacy for simple, sattvic living. Three rounds of Sūrya Namaskāras, with the Totakastakam music that followed, were demonstrated by new sets of youth volunteers, showcasing teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
Talks & Advanced Practices
Savita Joshi, Executive Director of the Dallas Chapter, delivered an insightful talk on the essence of Yoga Yagna and the spirit of giving. Dinesh then taught Uḍḍīyāna Bandha and Agnisāra Kriyā, offering participants a glimpse into deeper yogic cleansing practices. This was followed by Savita leading advanced variations of Sūrya Namaskāra, after which the youth team guided participants through a variety of āsanas, offering a rich, well-rounded experience.
Relaxation & Closing
Eesha concluded the practice segment with a deeply calming guided relaxation, allowing participants to integrate the benefits of their efforts. Rupa shared announcements about our classes, upcoming events, including Spring Fest and Kaun Banega Swami Vivekananda Expert.
Dr. Sunil Thummala, President of the Dallas Chapter, delivered an inspiring message to the audience on finding personal motivation to maintain a consistent yoga practice. Although Dr. Sejal was unable to attend due to illness, her presence was acknowledged. Several participants shared heartfelt reflections on their Yagna experience, all of which were overwhelmingly positive.
Community Fellowship
The event concluded with nourishing refreshments—bananas, herbal tea, and homemade protein-rich bars lovingly prepared by Savita. Participants enjoyed the offerings and the sense of community they fostered.
Conclusion
The Yoga Yagna was a resounding success, marked by enthusiastic participation, youth leadership, and a harmonious blend of learning, practice, and reflection. The Dallas Yoga Bharati community once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering holistic well-being, intergenerational engagement, and the timeless values of yoga.
