International Day of Yoga 2026 Celebrated with Enthusiasm
Yoga Bharati joyfully celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 at Bhartiya Nivas, bringing together yoga practitioners, community members, seniors, volunteers, and well-wishers for a morning dedicated to health, harmony, and holistic living. There were close to 50 people, our youngest was 6 years old, and the oldest was 90 years old! Pranawi, a rising high school freshman, was the emcee for the event.
This year's International Day of Yoga theme, "Yoga for Healthy Aging," highlighted the transformative role of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental resilience, emotional balance, and graceful aging.
The celebration held special significance as it also marked Yoga Bharati's Silver Jubilee, commemorating 25 years of dedicated service in spreading authentic yoga and Vedanta across communities.
Yoga Protocol Session
The program commenced with a warm welcome followed by the Common Yoga Protocol, conducted simultaneously in two formats to ensure inclusivity:
Mat Yoga Session led by Dinesh Reddy
Chair Yoga Session for seniors and participants requiring gentle practice led by Rohini Garimalla
Participants enthusiastically practiced asanas, pranayama, relaxation techniques, and meditation under the guidance of experienced Yoga Bharati instructors. The dual-track approach enabled participants of varying ages and abilities to experience the benefits of yoga comfortably and safely.
Inspirational Message from Yogashree N. V. Raghuram ji
A special highlight of the event was a video message by renowned yoga scholar Raghuram ji, who emphasized yoga as a comprehensive lifestyle for healthy living and successful aging.
His inspiring message was beautifully aligned with this year's International Day of Yoga theme and encouraged everyone to integrate yoga into their daily lives.
Dallas Chapter President Dr. Sunil Thummala spoke about the importance of yoga and Yoga Bharati, celebrating 25 years of community engagement and service. He also emphacized on the importance of yoga for healthy aging.
