The team at Yoga Bharati, consists of passionate yoga teachers and volunteers, yoga masters and monks (swamijis), experts from the field of yoga. Ayurveda, Research on yoga and other health care experts and spiritual leaders. However, due to our work culture of being a Guru-less, lineage-free organization, we do not have one spiritual Guru. But we accept all spiritual giants and their teachings and inculcate them into our teaching.
Our Executive Team
Ashwini Surpur, BS (Computer Science), MA (Sanskrit), ERYT, CIAYT is the Executive Director of Yoga Bharati. She has worked at Oracle as a Software Engineer for 15 years and quit her job in 2010 to join Yoga Bharati as a full time volunteer staff. She has spoken at various conferences on yoga and Hindu philosophy. She writes articles for various magazines and news media on Yoga. She is passionate about literature and philosophy and composes poems in Kannada and English. She is pursuing higher studies in Veerashaiva philosophy and writes articles on Veerashaivism. Savita Joshi, MBA, E-RYT, is the Treasurer and the Director of Yoga Therapy Services at Yoga Bharati. She has a Diploma in Yoga Therapy from Vivekananda Yoga University (SVYASA), Bangalore, India. Savita provide yoga therapy for more than eight years with an emphasis on supporting women through prenatal and postnatal yoga, fertility, and other psychosomatic disorders at Yoga Bharati. Savita is on the faculty for Yoga Therapy Training at Yoga Bharati. She also guides yoga therapy students in training. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from India and Master’s degree in Business Administration from Cal state Hayward University. She has spoken at various retreats and conferences on the topic of yoga.

Yogashree N.V.Raghuram is the Chairman and Spiritual Founder of Yoga Bharati and Professor of yoga philosophy in Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation (SVYASA), Bangalore India. Sri N.V Raghuram is trained under some of the most renowned exponents of yoga such as Prof Satyanarayana Sastry and has been practicing yoga since early childhood. He is instrumental in introducing yoga therapy in a neurological clinic in Germany and starting yoga therapy in hospitals in Italy, Turkey, and China. He has traveled to several countries in Asia, Europe and America, giving discourses and stress reduction programs based on yoga.
Anil Surpur is one of the founding members and currently the President of Yoga Bharati. Anil completed his Bachelor in Electronic Engineering from India (Karnataka) and has a MBA from All India Management Association (AIMA). He has undergone BKS Iyyengar yoga training, Chennai in 1986 and has been practicing Yoga since then. He has completed Yoga teachers training in 2003 and is a registered experienced Yoga Teacher (ERYT) with Yoga Alliance (YA). He is currently the Director of Engineering in Ooma Inc., in Palo Alto, CA.
Swami Bodhananda is highly respected in America and India as an accomplished teacher of Vedanta and meditation. Originally from Kerala, India, he did his undergraduation in economics, and then joined the Saraswati order — one of ten sannyasa orders established by Adi Shankaracharya. Presently, Swamiji is the Spiritual Founder and Director of The Sambodh Society in America and 11 other organizations of Sambodh Foundation in India. Dr. Manohar Shinde, M.D., Ph.D. Psychiatry, was on the teaching clinical faculty of UCLA & USA schools of Medicine and at the “Institute for contemporary psychoanalysis” (ICP). He has also served as a Medical director in many institutions and retired from 29 years of Private practice in Glendale, Los Angeles. Dr. Shinde is a community leader with an extensive track record of philanthropy and service, and has impacted thousands of people. He serves on the board of several non-profit organizations serving the Indian community in North America.

Padmashree Dr. Nagendra is the chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation (SVYASA), Bengaluru,India. He quit his high profile career at NASA USA and returned to India and founded SVYASA university — from engineering to human engineering “in search of truth.” SVYASA has published more than 300 research papers on yoga and its applications. Dr.R.Nagarathna, MBBS, MD, FRCP (Edinburgh), FICA (USA) is the Chief Yoga Therapy Consultant and Dean of the Division of Yoga and Life Sciences at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, SVYASA, Bengaluru. She combines her medical training along with her deep understanding of yoga in leading the health center. She heads the therapy division for asthma, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and other ailments. Dr. Nagaratna serves as an adviser and guide for Ph.D students at SVYASA. Sharad Dandekar is on the board of Advisors of Yoga Bharati. Engineer by profession he retired in 2003 from Xerox Corporation. After retiring he completed Yoga Instructor Course (YIC) in 2004. Since then he is actively engaged in promoting ‘Yoga for Positive Health – an Integrated Approach’. He is a registered member of Yoga Alliance at RYT200 level. In 2014 Sharad completed training in ‘Stop Diabetes Movement’ (SDM) program and conducted two camps. Sharad is one of the founding members of the Los Angeles Chapter of Yoga Bharati. Besides having on going Yoga classes the chapter conducts Yoga Instructor Course and Sun Salutation Marathon annually. Chapter also maintains library of books on Yoga and conducts monthly meeting of members Yoga Teachers’ Alumni.
Dr. Kris Murthy is a techno-management specialist living in Bay area and has extensively worked in multinational corporations in technology and hospitality. He has also taught post-graduate courses at universities, and extensively travelled across the globe. He is a managing partner of a healthcare analytics company and is on the advisory panel and board of directors of multiple corporations in USA, Europe and India. He has conducted leadership and technical training programs for senior management, professionals, faculty at universities, post-graduate students, government department heads and educational institutions.
In addition, Dr. Murthy serves as Development Director for Festival of Globe, Silicon Valley, and is an advisor and strategist for several other non-profit organizations in USA and India. He has a great passion and energy to serve the community.
Sachin Deshmukh is a highly sought yoga instructor and meditation expert. Sachin Deshmukh has been trained as a physician in India and holds several degrees and diplomas in holistic medicine, homeopathy, Ayurveda, and yoga therapy. Sachin was born into a family of yoga masters, trained under several monks, and been exposed to diverse vedic traditions and philosophies. Sachin’s approach to holistic medicine combines ayurveda and homeopathy with the classical limbs of yoga, encompassing asana, pranayama, bandha, mudra, kriya, chanting and nada-yoga, along with Transcendental Meditation® and other mental practices. His approach is tailored to the specific needs of his students and clients.
Dr. Ann C. DeBaldo has a background in Microbiology and a Ph.D. in Medical Science and has worked for years in the field of traditional wellness and healing practices with affiliated institutions in India. Dr. DeBaldo has traveled extensively throughout India with her students to study ancient wellness and healing practices. As a Fulbright scholar living in Pune, India, she worked with the Public Health Foundation of India and developed and administered an academic program in Bioinformatics. In addition to her collaborative research on the topic, Dr. DeBaldo has a certificate in Wellness Counseling and Mind-Body Consciousness from the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology, CA.
Smt. Pratichi Mathur : ‘Shunya’ Pratichi Mathur is the founder of Vedika Global, a not for profit organization in Berkeley California, where she offers 5 year degree in Ayurveda. At Vedica Global, she offers free Ayurveda Sanghas or public lectures, and low cost Ayurveda wellness clinics. Pratichi is an author of many publications, and has been featured in San Francisco Chronicle, Tathaastu Magazine, and Yoga Journal and serves on the board of several professional organizations serving Ayurveda and allied Vedic sciences including the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. Fulbright Scholar and Doctor of Science, Dr. Naveen Visweswaraiah is the Medical Director of Yogaksema Stress and Lifestyle Clinic in Bengaluru, India. Dr Visweswaraiah is has 20 years of research and clinical experience. As a Integrative Medicine physician and an accomplished yoga researcher, he holds executive positions in different institutions such as the Executive Director of Foundation for Assessment & Integration of Traditional Health Systems [FAITHS], Bengaluru; Consultant at SVYASA Yoga University, Bengaluru.
